Country Programme (2006 - 2009)

With its accession to the European Union, Bulgaria is entering an extremely important stage in its development. The UNDP Country Programme for 2006 – 2009 stresses on support for the EU membership of Bulgaria  - in particular, supporting the country to use fully the development opportunities it would propose.

Country Programme for Bulgaria 2006 - 2009 is the programme document for UNDP’s work in Bulgaria for the years 2006 – 2009. Set in it, based on the country’s development priorities and UNDP’s 12 years of experience on the national and local level, are the main areas of UNDP work.

During this programme cycle UNDP Bulgaria will concentrate its work in the following focus areas:

• Social inclusion and local economic development for poverty reduction
• Good governance for equitable local and regional development
• Energy and environment conservation for sustainable development

Cutting across all those areas for both ongoing and future projects is work on HIV/AIDS, ICT for development, gender mainstreaming and human rights.
